The city continues its holiday tradition of relaxing parking fines in order to make it easier for people to enjoy the city’s holiday offerings. Mayor Cicilline announced that this parking program will begin on November 27th and run through January 01, 2008.
No tickets will be issued for overtime and metered parking within the hours 11AM and 6PM, Monday through Saturday. The Relaxed Parking program includes Downtown Providence (bounded by Steeple Street, 95 South, Point Street, and Wickenden Street.)
Come Downcity for great holiday shopping and leave your parking worries behind!

This year Westminster St. merchants are participating in all the holiday cheer of the Providence Preservation Society’s Holiday Stroll on Saturday, December 8th. The stroll starts on Benefit St. and proceeds down Meeting St. into the center of Downtown around 4:30pm. The Mayor’s annual tree lighting at city hall joins the Holiday Festival this season at 6:00pm. Attendees will be treated to free ice skating, the Mayor’s tree lighting, and special holiday entertainment on Westminster St. The shops will all be open untill 8:00pm offering refreshments and a number of holiday festivities for a cozy holiday shopping experience. Be sure to bring the whole family for the horse drawn carraige rides, a visit with Santa, carolers, roasted chestnuts and great holiday shopping!

6th Annual Craftland Opens on December 1, 2007
Retail Location to Offer Thousands Handmade Goods
Providence, RI – October 22 2007 – Craftland, the seasonal retail boutique located in Providence, Rhode Island returns on December 1, 2007 for the holiday season. Craftland is a juried show featuring an eclectic assortment of fine craft and kitschy handmade goods.The 2007 store will be the largest to-date with goods from more than 150 artists and crafters from Rhode Island and around the country. Stop in to purchase a variety of high-quality and unique goods including: magical stuffed animals and other creatures, handmade books and stationery, unusual jewelry, inventive lamps and other housewares, colorful handbags, limited edition prints and things just too strange and delightful to list. There’s always something surprising at Craftland.
With prices from $1 to $150, there are handmade goodies for everyone! Craftland runs from December 1-22, and hours are Wednesday-Sunday 11am- 6pm and Saturdays 11-8pm. You can browse the world of glittery mayhem in beautiful Downtown Providence at 235 Westminster Street, Providence, RI. Admission is free and no sales tax is charged!
An opening night party on Friday November 30th from 5 – 9 PM kicks off the Craftland season.
Gifts purchased at Craftland truly reflect the spirit of the holiday season. Not only do sales support local and national artists, but 5% of our proceeds benefit The Steel Yard and their free arts and training programs for youth.
