When I hit the end of a long work day, there are usually two things I want: a drink, and a snack. Aspire Restaurant, 311 Westminster St., offers both, with a special discounted menu from 4pm-7pm, Monday-Thursday. They have 1$, 3$ and 5$ food items, ranging from jumbo shrimp cocktail, to stuffies, to artisan pizza’s, and of course a full bar. Visit their website for a full “Weekday Wind Down” menu. A great place to socialize, wait out the rush hour traffic, and let go of the day…head over there, get some great cheap eats, and take a load off!

I think Perishable Theater has a got a great thing going, with their after work class series “Rush Hour”. Instead of running out the door of the office just to hurry up and sit in traffic, you can join a class or two during the week, learn a new style of dance, let off some steam and burn a few calories! The classes range from belly dancing, to modern dance and ballet, to “Soca-Robics”, which incorporates Caribbean style music with high-energy aerobic steps and traditional West African movements: yielding a full body workout! It’s $13 to drop in, or $60 for a six class punch card. It won’t expire, and can be used for any class in the series. Rush Hour classes are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 5:30pm, Wednesdays at 6:00pm, and there are two morning classes held on Sunday as well. Visit their website for more schedule details and class descriptions. Beat the traffic! Get your dance on!

The Gallery at Craftland presents work by Margaret Oomen & Merilee Chaliss, curated by Faythe Levine. Their work will be on exhibit from January 7th to February 10th, with a reception on Thursday, January 14th, 5-8pm. Come down to Craftland to view their work along with all the other artists featured in Craftland’s store, 235 Westminster St.
Merrilee brings her gouache and ink images of a darkly humorous view of natural history all the way from Birmingham, Alabama. Hailing from Aurora, Ontario, Margaret makes work that combines her fascination with science as a medical doctor with her love of nature to create crochet covered stones featuring fractal patterns and Fibonacci sequences.
