Local Graphic Designer’s Edgy and Diverse Greeting Cards to Hit the Scene at HOMESTYLE
Local graphic designer Jennifer Adler has created a line of greeting cards geared directly towards the hip, edgy, diverse, and fiercely frank. “I wanted to create greeting cards that my friends would like and want to buy,” says Adler, a RISD graduate and native Rhode Islander. “My close circle of friends includes young women and men who are smart and fun but also happen to be White, Black, Mexican, Vietnamese, Greek, Irish, Lebanese, Gay – I, myself, am Jewish. Some have a hard time finding cards that reflect them. One friend doesn’t buy greeting cards for that reason alone.”
The cards feature friendly, trendy, drawn characters with no eyes or noses but big mouths. The figures are paired with humerous remarks that sharply contrast with their pleasant facades. “Essentially, the people I’ve created in my cards are my friends – they may not openly say what I have them saying but they definitely think it,” says Adler.
The first store to carry the line is HOMESTYLE located in Downcity on Westminster Street. Says Lisa Newman Paratore, proprietor of HOMESTYLE, “I was immediately drawn to the line and took it on without hesitation. Jennifer really gets the fact that Providence is a community of fiercely smart and funny people with diverse backgrounds. The card lines that I sell most are ones that embrace intellect and humor with no excuses. But this is the first line I have seen that also embraces diversity. I think it’s a no-brainer.”
HOMESTYLE invites you to come check out the line and give us your thoughts!

Jennifer’s cards are great. They’re funny and intelligent, and really make a statement; I especially like her yoga humor. More than anything, though, it’s nice to see that greeting cards can be laugh-out-loud funny without incorporating fart jokes or the words ‘over the hill’. Rock on, Jennifer!
